Alma Martin Madison, age 100, of the Givens Estates Retirement Community, Asheville, NC passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010. She was born August 18, 1909 in Williamston, SC.
Living a meaningful life, in 1931 she became a registered nurse graduating from the High Point Hospital Nursing School in 1931 where she met her future husband Rev Dr J Clay Madison who was a patient in her ward. Married later for 70 years she served during that period as a minister's wife. At the same time, she was a loving mother grandmother. While living in Lake Junaluska she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville.
She is preceded in death by her husband Reverend Dr. J. Clay Madison and a son David Madison.
Surviving is her daughter, Florence M. Widis and her husband Larry Widis, of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Ashley L. Widis and her husband Chick Tsikouras of Charlotte, and Amy R. Widis of Boynton Beach, FL.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Reverend Sandy Giles officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside services from 11 AM to 11:45 AM at the Garrett Funeral Home of Waynesville.
